It’s been nine years since we last saw Bridget Jones on the big screen. The third entry of the franchise, based on the books by Helen Fielding, was titled Bridget Jones’s Baby and concluded with Bridget settling down. With her first child and beloved husband Mark Darcy at her side, the forty-something finally seemed happy.
As is common in the Bridget Jones universe, the calm didn’t last long. In Mad About the Boy, middle-aged Bridget (Renée Zellweger) is back on the dating scene. After Mark’s death, struggling with grief and single-parenting two kids, Bridget starts flirting with the handsome 29-year-old Roxster (Leo Woodall). She also crosses paths with a married teacher, Scott Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor).
The new Bridget film premiered right in time for Valentine’s Day, but if you’re wondering when to watch it at home, we have your back.
How to watch Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy now
Currently, the rom-com is available in UK cinemas. You can book tickets via Vue, Showcase, Odeon or Cineworld websites. In the United Kingdom, Mad About the Boy premiered on 13 February 2025.
Surprisingly, the movie won’t appear in US theatres. Previous films from the franchise underperformed at the American box office. Thus, Mad About the Boy will go straight to streaming in the States.
Here’s the trailer for the film:
When will Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy be released on VOD?
Universal Pictures, the distributor of the Renée Zellweger-led movie, hasn’t revealed when Mad About the Boy will premiere on digital. However, we will try to anticipate the date based on the previous releases.
Much will depend on how the film will perform at the box office. Fall Guy, Universal’s last year flop, became available to rent and buy only a month after its cinematic debut. On the other hand, the highly successful Wicked took 42 days to drop on VOD.
At this point, all indications are that Mad About the Boy will be a smashing hit in the UK. Eduardo Leal, group Regional director of screen content for Vue, stated that ticket pre-sales are higher than for Barbie.
Universal will likely be in no rush to release Mad About the Boy on VOD – we expect it to arrive on digital at the end of March 2025.
The American digital release is a little harder to predict, as the film has a different release strategy here. However, there’s a chance that it will follow the same pattern as the UK.
When will Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy be released on DVD/Blu-ray?
Release times for physical copies of Universal Pictures movies vary. In the UK, Fall Guy dropped on DVD and Blu-ray 63 days after the VOD premiere, and Wicked will arrive after 66 days.
Therefore, we estimate that copies of Mad About the Boy may arrive in May 2025.
Note, that this is just a prediction – we’ll update this article with new information as soon as we have it.
When will Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy be released on streaming services?
In the US, the Renée Zellweger-led movie is currently streaming on Peacock. It hit the service on Thursday, 13 February 2025, simultaneously with the UK cinematic release.
However, it’s unknown when the film may appear on streaming in the United Kingdom. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will likely drop on Sky and Now, as Fall Guy did, but Universal has yet to confirm it.
That said, there is a way to sign up for Peacock in the UK – you can read our guide for more information.
