A GROUP of car experts have given their top predictions for motoring-related trends in 2025 – including the rise in an unusual car colour option.
Online used car marketplace Motorway has looked back at some of the biggest moments of 2024 to help determine their thoughts for the year ahead.
From the influence of social media and sport, to fashion and culture, they’ve looked at the most anticipated colours, styles, and models that could dominate the roads.
One of their top predictions is the popularity of compact cars, which they link to the rise of TikTok ‘Dinks’ – Dual Income No Kids couples.
In 2025, British households are predicted to turn to smaller, more efficient car models as compact, cheaper cars reign supreme among this consumer group.
Now making up 40% of UK families and resulting in a new demographic known for saving on essentials and flaunting their luxury lifestyles on social media, Motorway expects the so-called matchbox car to reign supreme.
After DINKs spent big on travel, property and luxury experiences last year, Motorway saw an increase in the number of smaller models sold in 2024 compared to the year prior, including the Mazda 2 and Kia Picanto, with dealers stocking up on cars that suit couples’ two-person needs.
And with a growing number of child-free homes this year, couples in their DINK era will make their next car purchase a small one, with research revealing that 68% of Brits in small households would prefer a smaller, more efficient model to a large car in 2025.
But what colour will these tiny motors be?
Motorway believes the influence of Sabrina Carpenter might be a factor with her song ‘Espresso’.
The bop already went some way to influencing the Pantone Colour of the Year, which was Mocha Mousse.
Likewise, coloured cars could be expected to hit the roads in 2025, after last year’s Peach Fuzz resulted in a 14% increase in the sale of orange cars on the platform.
Curiously, in 2024, the Brat phenomenon and the frenzy for Wicked saw the Barbie-esque trend overshadowed – with a 7% increase in the average selling price of green cars, while pink cars experienced a significant decline in their average selling price.
Motorway also predicts that sports cars will make their way to the top of the podium this year, with BMW cars the most frequently sold on the platform in 2024.
But that’s not to say the ever-dependable Fiat 500 won’t be far behind, as it reached the top spot in 10 used-car sales in 2024, outselling fancier cars like the Audi A1.
What’s more, 64% of Brits are looking for a mix of function and design in their upcoming set of wheels, with a 14% increase in the number of caravans sold last year on the platform.
