Spring is denim’s time to shine, and studded denim is the only way to go this season, at least according fashion insiders.
Not just for Coachella or Glastonbury, studded denim in small doses can also jazz up your everyday outfit.
Now, we know what you’re all thinking: how does one style studded denim without them looking like they’re headed to the rodeo? After all, their inspiration does come from cowboy culture that conjures images of fringed suede jackets, wide-brimmed Stetsons and a pointy paisley boots.

So if you’re looking to tap into the studded denim trend in the city, take your cue from the fashion girls nailing the trend. Blake Lively recently stepped out in a denim-on-denim look, but played with proportions to keep the outfit modern. She wore her mini studded dress with a denim duster, wrestling buckle belt and barely-there sandals. The key here is how she added her feminine flair to the Western outfit.

It’s a style lesson all the fashion girlies at Paris Fashion Week this season have also taught us. Even in a top-to-toe studded denim look, the pieces would often come in interesting cuts, be it a corset or miniskirt. Then, there’s the accessories. What you pair with your look is key. Adding a hint of irony with an unexpected bag, like in the shape of a small canary as in one influencer’s case, or dramatic shades or Buffalo boots in the case of another, will help the look less cowboy and more couture.

Our favourite thing about the trend is how easily it elevates an outfit. T-shirt and jeans? Basic. T-shirt and studded jeans? Now we’re talking. With a bomber jacket and trainers, you’ve got yourself a casual weekend look. With an oversized blazer and heels and you’re ready for a smart casual dinner.
The best part is, if you own a matching top and bottom, you basically have at least three outfits ready to go, depending on how daring you feel that day. There are also different levels of “studdedness” so for those a little sparkle-shy opt for a sleek pair of jeans with just a few studs lining the sides, but if you don’t mind stealing the show, go all out with diamanté denim.
