The super Jaguar of the future shows itself on the road – Motor1.com UK

Imposing, massive, in the shape of a coupé saloon or perhaps a shooting brake. The Jaguar of the future is showing itself for the first time on the road, heavily camouflaged, in what is supposed to be one of the first test sessions in the UK.

This car and, more generally, the reset of the Jaguar brand planned for 2021 are the subject of increasingly insistent discussions, because on 2 December, at Miami’s Art Week, the first model that will give life to the ‘new species’ comprising a total of three cars is due to be previewed.

And this new species is to be taken literally, as the British brand is about to embark on a total repositioning exercise.

From premium car to luxury car

To put it in simple terms, Jaguar will go from being a premium brand competing with BMW, Audi etc. to a luxury brand ready to rival Bentley, Maserati, Porsche and co. Technological content, performance and, of course, prices will rise accordingly, as Rawdon Glover, the brand’s managing director, explained in an interview last July.

The economic order of magnitude is €120,000-€130,000, but the stylistic revolution will be even greater.  Here’s an extract from Glover’s comments on styling:

‘It has substantial road presence. In terms of proportions, it’s a far cry from what we’re doing today. To achieve this, I split the design team into three groups. In the space of three months, they produced 17 full-size models using different design languages, some familiar, others looking like something out of a science fiction film. The design language we chose is exuberant. Think of something that will be really different on the road. In December, we’ll be unveiling our new design language.

Don’t let the radiator fool you…

It’s hard to get a clearer picture from the “spy shots”, but what really stands out are the proportions, with a very long nose and an incredibly high beltline.

Note, among other things, the presence of the large radiator grille, which is only a faux ornament as you can see the surface underneath, still wearing camouflage, is indeed solid and not ventilated. It’s a tongue-in-cheek clue that the car will be 100% electric. Furthermore, if you zoom in on the image, you can see the charging port on the right-hand side of the car, level with the front wheels.
