Paint your front door this exact colour to sell your house quicker

A property expert has revelaed the exact colour to paint your front door for a quicker home sale – and it’s probably not the one you think.

If you’re struggling to sell, giving the main entrance a lick of paint could be the transformative touch that’s needed.

January will see a surge of properties being put on the market as millions of Brits make it their New Year’s resolution to upsize, relocate or simply change their surroundings.

That means if your house is already listed, there’s some serious competition coming your way to draw the attention of potential buyers.

Simple touches can make all the difference and when it comes to your front door, it turns out bright colours are not the winner many people think.

Navy blue is actually your best bet, according to Terry Fisher, from We Buy Any Home, who says this more conservative shade has a track record for making homes stand out from others in the property market.

“Navy blue is a versatile and sophisticated choice that complements a wide range of architectural styles,” he said.

“It exudes a sense of stability and trust, making it an excellent option for creating a positive first impression. First impressions are everything when it comes to property and the colour of your front door can significantly impact a potential buyer’s perception of your home. It’s a small detail that can make a big difference.”

According to Terry, the advantage of navy blue is that it offers a balance between boldness and neutrality.

“It’s a colour that stands out without being too flashy and it tends to age well, maintaining its appeal over time,” he added, saying he’s personally seen houses sell faster when they have strategically used navy blue front doors.

He said: “Over the years, we have spotted a pattern where homes with navy blue front doors tend to attract more attention and sell faster than comparable properties with different colours. It’s remarkable how a seemingly small detail can have such a significant impact on buyer perception.”

In addition to navy blue, other popular front door colours that property experts often recommend include muted greens, warm greys and deep reds.

However, Terry stresses the importance of picking a colour that goes well with your home’s overall aesthetic and boosts its curb appeal.

He said: “Choosing the right front door colour is not just about following trends – it’s about understanding the unique character of your home, such as its architectural style and colour palette.

“I’ve seen firsthand how a well-thought-out front door colour can elevate a property’s perceived value and attract potential buyers.

“The goal is to make the front door a focal point that draws people in, encouraging them to envision the home as their own.”
