I feel so guilty for stealing someone else’s work and passing it off as my own

DEAR DEIDRE: I FEEL so guilty for stealing someone else’s work and passing it off as my own.

My teacher thought it was so good that she gave me top marks. Now I can’t sleep at night and don’t know what to do.

I’m a 17-year-old boy, doing A levels. Last term, I was given a piece of homework that I forgot to do.

When I remembered, the morning it was due in, I got an AI app to write it, then changed some of the words to sound like mine.

My teacher didn’t realise I’d cheated and awarded me an A*.

Since then, I’ve been obsessing about it. I’m worried if I say anything, I’ll fail.

But if I don’t, I’ll feel guilty forever.

DEIDRE SAYS: Cheating is never wise.

Even though you didn’t get caught, you’re consumed with guilt.

Try to be kind to yourself. You’ve learned your lesson and won’t do it again.

As long as from now on you work hard and submit your own work, you will grow from this experience.

See my support pack about Anxiety, if this continues to bother you.
