THERE are just a few weeks to go until Katy Perry kicks off The Lifetimes Tour – her first global trek in seven years.
But if you’re not able to make any of her shows, including the eight arena gigs in the UK this autumn, I have some good news.
We’ve learned that the Teenage Dream singer is in advanced talks with Prime Video for a special behind-the-scenes documentary to be made about her time on the road.
The warts-and-all special will act as a follow-up to her 2012 film, Part Of Me.
That tear-jerker covered her 124-date California Dreams Tour, but also included insight into the breakdown of her marriage to comedian Russell Brand.
A source said: “Katy is determined to give fans one of her best shows ever.
“She’s been locked in rehearsals for weeks perfecting everything, and is keen for the show to be captured on film.
“Like she did with her Part Of Me documentary, the plan is for a camera crew to follow her on the road.
“Obviously, Katy is in a much happier place in her life than she was back in 2011, so her fiancé Orlando Bloom will likely be in it lots, too.
“Talks are ongoing with Prime Video and the hope is that the deal can be signed before opening night.”
This is a huge month for Katy, because not only does her tour kick off in Mexico on April 23, but next week she is being blasted into space.
The pop star has been invited by Amazon boss Jeff Bezos‘ girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez, to join the first all-female trip on Blue Origin.
Gushing over the out-of-this-world opportunity, which will see Katy leave the Earth’s atmosphere, she said: “If you had told me I’d be part of the first all-female crew in space, I would actually have believed you — nothing was beyond my imagination as a child!”
We hope you have a blast, Katy.
KESHA: I’LL KEEP ON FIGHTING
SHE just released a new cowboy part-anthem with T-Pain about having a good time.
But that doesn’t mean that Kesha‘s music is all about fun.
In fact, the US singer, who returned to music in 2017 after a legal battle with her former producer, insists it’s just as much about politics.
She told Paper mag: “I really identify with people that alchemise the fight for human rights.
“I will not lay down or be quiet about human rights, and as someone who had her freedoms taken away and fought like hell to get them back, I will echo that through my work until the day I die.”
ED’S BACK, BUT AT No2
ED SHEERAN is set to miss out on the No1 spot with comeback single Azizam because of the unstoppable force that is Alex Warren.
The US singer-songwriter, who has been compared to Ed, has spent three weeks at No1 with Ordinary and it looks like he will stay there in Friday’s chart, as he is way ahead in the race.
Early figures obtained by Bizarre show Alex has sold 12,685 copies of the tune since Friday, while Ed is currently perched at No2 with 7,572 sales.
Other new entries this week will be Sleep Token’s Caramel and End Of The World by Miley Cyrus.
Although Ed – pictured below performing Azizam in London on Friday – has already given us the first taste of his album, which will mark a return to positive pop, his fans have a while to wait for the full launch.
He told Hits Radio: “The album will come after summer. I know it’s a long wait but I’m doing a lot of music drops beforehand.
“And I’m also on the Mathematics tour until the first week of September, and I didn’t want to drop the next album while on the last tour.
“So I’m going to wait until the tour is done and it’ll be finished for about three days and then the record will come out.”
I’ll mark Friday, September 12, in my diary then.
ABI: THE ALBUM I MADE ON DEATH BED
GUY’S GEAR NOT SO DEAR
COLDPLAY bassist Guy Berryman, has been making a small fortune from his Applied Art Form clothing brand.
And it’s hardly surprising, given the jackets cost upwards of £800 and T-shirts sell for £170 a pop.
But now the rocker is aiming to give something back to his fans, by bringing out a more affordable range after admitting he felt bad that none of we regular folk have the money to buy anything.
Guy said: “The most common feedback I get from people who have discovered the brand is that they can’t afford it.
“We’re not the most expensive out there but it’s not a price point that’s accessible to everybody.
“I’ve been carrying that around for such a long time and I just kind of felt, ‘Well, this isn’t cool’.
“I want more people to engage with the brand. We have a slightly different strategy coming up.”
Hopefully that involves lopping at least 50 per cent off.
Bizbit
TOP Texas music festival South By Southwest is coming to East London for the first time – with local pop star MABEL on the line-up.
The event has been a huge hit in Austin for years, and from June 2-7 a spin-off will take place in Shoreditch.
More than 100 artists are being announced today, including British stars Sasha Keable, Zems and Nao.
JENNIE’S ON DOWN LOW
HAVING shot up the charts last month, K-pop star Jennie has put her best foot forward for a magazine cover shoot.
She posed in this leggy black dress for the new issue of Clash, out now, following the release of Ruby, which hit No3 and is the highest- charting solo release of any of the members of her South Korean girl band Blackpink.
Speaking about working on the album ahead of a reunion tour with Blackpink this summer, she said: “I’ve learnt so much over the past year about myself.
“I’ve unlocked parts of my creativity that I didn’t know I had.
“This all feels like I’m opening the curtains of a play.
“As clichéd as it sounds, it really does feel like the beginning.”
ABI MADE ALBUM ON HER ‘DEATH BED’
YOU may not know Abi Flynn’s name but you’ll know her voice.
The Brit singer has lent her vocals to some of the biggest dance hits, including Navos’ Believe Me and D.O.D’s So Much In Love, which are seemingly on repeat in Ibiza.
Earlier this year she released a single with British dance ace Nathan Dawe
And now she’s dropped new track Alma from upcoming album Get Deep, a record more focused on soul and jazz.
Abi made the album eight years ago to give her hope as she battled cancer.
Opening up about the record at a Cancer Awareness Trust and Evamore Music event in East London, Abi said: “I made this album on my death bed.
“I literally had a 21cm tumour when I made it.
“But I just had a level of hope and faith that I could make this album and one day people would hear it. That helped see me through.
“Bringing out this album is for me really. It’s been healing for me.
“When I had cancer I recorded a bunch of top lines for a friend and hooks, and I didn’t know at the time but they had found their way into dance tracks around the world.
“For the past six years or so they have been played all over and people have felt hope and optimism with them.
“The power of sound and music always continues to blow me away.”
KYLIE TAKES A SHINE TO STATES
KYLIE MINOGUE gets the blues as she takes to the stage in New York.
The Padam Padam singer showed off her trim frame in a latex top and trousers on Saturday as she wrapped up two huge nights at Madison Square Garden on her Tension tour.
It’s the first time Kylie has played the arena – finally cementing her career-long dream of cracking America.
Going all out to impress, she had multiple costume changes during the show, including a black cape and strappy dark dress, inset.
The tour is sure to cause a real Lo-commotion when it reaches the UK later next month.
CRAIG USHER-ED ON STAGE
HE surprised fans by bringing out Naomi Campbell last week during his ten-date residency at the O2 Arena, and Usher was joined by another special guest at the weekend.
This time it was the nicest man in music, aka Craig David, with the pair performing Craig’s hits Fill Me In and 7 Days.
Gushing over their unlikely friendship, Usher said: Every chance we get to celebrate each other, we have.”
Craig’s appearance has now got fans wondering if a single could be on the horizon.
