ARGENTINIAN president Javier Milei is the first world leader to meet with President-elect Donald Trump following his election victory.
The far-right chainsaw-wielding premier – known for his tirades against China and the Pope – is a long-time fan of Trump.
Milei, attending a gala held at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate on Thursday night, ran towards him screaming “president” before launching into a big hug, The Telegraph reports.
Footage shared online showed him dancing enthusiastically to YMCA at one of the tables in the ballroom.
Trump gave a speech at the event where he applauded Milei, telling the crowd: “The job you’ve done is incredible. Make Argentina Great Again, you know, MAGA. He’s a MAGA person.”
Milei first met Trump at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington earlier this year.
He has pushed a lot of the same cost-cutting policies and slashes to public spending in his own government, that Trump and apparent right-hand man Elon Musk are planning to implement.
So-called tantric sex expert Milei brandished a chainsaw during one of his campaign events before being elected in December 2023.
He smashed a central bank-shaped piñata on TV with it – and performed an opera about public spending dressed as a superhero.
The self-claimed “lion” and “anarcho-capitalist” said he wanted to solve the country’s 200 per cent inflation rate.
He also pledged to get rid of the central bank and replace the peso with the US dollar.
Since then he has overseen huge cuts to Argentina’s bureaucratic agencies – abolishing entire departments and firing some 15,000 officials.
Billionaire Musk has been appointed co-chair of Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) – tasked with slashing what the pair view as unnecessary government spending.
Musk, who has reportedly been at Mar-a-Lago with Trump ever since his win, has said staff will have to work 80 hours a week without pay.
During a speech at the gala, Milei slammed left-wing policies and applauded Tesla CEO Musk for turning Twitter into X and helping to “save humanity”.
He shared a snap of him and Trump to the site later with the caption “Long live freedom”.
