BBC Breakfast 'cuts off' Carol Kirkwood as co-star issues apology 'that's not good'

Carol Kirkwood was accidentally cut off by her BBC Breakfast co-stars during Tuesday’s (11 February) episode of the BBC One show.

Carol had been delivering the latest weather news to TV viewers when hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent took over presenting the show. As Carol’s segment ended, Jon and Sally said goodbye to her before she was abruptly taken off air.

“OK, thanks, Carol. Thanks for this morning,” Jon said before Carol disappeared. He and Sally then contemplated whether they’d cut her off before issuing an apology.

Sally wondered: “Think we just cut her off ever so slightly there. How did we do that? That’s not good!”

Jon then quipped: “If she’s lucky, we’ll bring her back tomorrow. She’s got to be good in the meantime!” which prompted Sally to reassure viewers that Carol would be returning.

Sally added: “She’s definitely coming back. She’s not going anywhere.”

The fun moment came after BBC viewers complained about Tuesday’s episode of BBC Breakfast, as they insisted the TV show needed a “revamp” on social media.

The comments came after Jon and Sally asked TV viewers to send in their best jokes to be read out during Tuesday’s show, with viewers left unimpressed by the fun idea.

“No more jokes. Sorry, #BBCBreakfast, you lost me at ‘send in your own jokes’. Really scraping the bottom of the barrel this morning – the full gamut from gloom and doom news to mindless trivia. Time for a complete revamp,” one disgruntled viewer posted on X.

A second chimed in: “#BBCBreakfast We haven’t done any journalism today so please send in your favourite puns…

While a third quipped: “@BBCBreakfast As you’re covering jokes today – My dog was doing so well in the tour de France til the chien came off.”

BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One from 6am on weekdays
